Stewardship

Have been thinking a lot about stewardship lately. How good of a steward am I? God reminded me about the story on stewards and stewardship in Matt. 25. Will I hear the words “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Or will it be: “You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.”

How do I deal with the gifts and resources I’ve been given? How do I handle money? How do I do with time? With the people I’ve been given? With my family?

Perhaps reflecting can be good at times…?

Funny, I’ve been thinking about the exact same thing for months now.

Why pray for more money if you (not you, Toffi, but anybody :-) ) don’t do the best you can with the money God already gave? What are the chances you spend the money for better purposes if there is more of it? — none, I would say! Or, why pray for a bigger car if you don’t take good care of the one you have now, and use it for the right purposes…? Why would I need a bigger house if I don’t plan to keep the door open for everyone? Etc.

I, myself, still throw away far too much food. Your wife doesn’t, she’s pretty good at this, I think.

My wife is good, yes. She can stretch a penny to two nickles. Whatever that means.

I think there is incredible depth in the passage in Matthew 25:21

‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
